Growing up surrounded by the aroma of freshly baked goods and the warmth of family gatherings, baking has always held a special place in my heart. My earliest memories involve helping my mom and my granny in the kitchen, kneading dough for pita bread and creating seasonal desserts, especially during the festive Easter and Christmas holidays.
However, my journey into the world of baking took a detour when I pursued a career as a flight attendant in my twenties. Despite the hectic schedule, I always found solace in exploring small dessert cafes during layovers. Eventually, life brought me back to my roots in New Bern to care for my mom, where I embarked on a career in medical billing.
It was during this time that I met my future husband, and together, we shared a passion for discovering quaint dessert shops on our travels. Blessed with two wonderful children, our family eventually settled in northeast Raleigh in 2015. As the years passed, I found myself yearning for something more fulfilling than my job in medical billing.
In 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts program at Wake Tech. The program not only honed my existing skills but also introduced me to new techniques and flavors from around the world. During this time, my husband and I began envisioning our own business—a cozy bakery that would offer both desserts and cocktails.
With the support of family and friends, we navigated the process of business planning, considering everything from location to financing. Fate led us to a promising location in a new shopping center across from Heritage High School in Wake Forest, NC. Despite facing challenges such as material shortages due to the pandemic, we remained resilient in our pursuit.
After months of planning and preparation, Cravin’ Confections finally opened its doors on April 20, 2022. The journey from a childhood dream to a reality was filled with ups and downs, but seeing the smiles on our customers' faces made it all worthwhile.
